Round Table Conference on Polyester Fibre

At the behest of the Textile Division, a Round Table Conference was organized in Lahore by the Polyester Fibre Group on 31st October 2013. Stakeholders of the textile value chain including APTMA, APTPMA, weavers, processers, and bed linen exporters attended the Conference. Secretary, Textile Division chaired the Conference, while a presentation was made by the Research & Advisory Cell of the Textile Division, highlighting the present low level of blended fibres in Pakistan’s textile production profile. It was shown that while the demand for synthetic fibre blends was growing in the international market, especially in USA and Japan, Pakistan used only 7% of blended fibres in its product lines, which was a major factor in the current level of low value addition. A strategy was developed to identify reasons behind this low usage of blended fibres in the textile supply chain, and to chalk out a way forward. The next meeting of the Group would be held on 25th November at the APTMA office in Lahore to finalize questionnaires for the industry, so that information can be collected and an action plan formulated.
