Visit to Dubai Textile City (May 2, 2013)


Honorable Minister for Commerce and Textile, Government of Pakistan, Maqbool H H Rahimtoola visited the Dubai Textile City (DTC) along with Federal Secretary Board of Investment (BOI), Mr. Raja Abbas, Consul General, Consulate General of Pakistan, H.E Tariq Iqbal Soomro, Chairman Board of Investment, Sindh Mr. Zubair Motiwala,Director General (BOI) Mr. Falak Sher, Commercial Counsellor Dr. Saeed Qadir Mangi, Mr. Raizuddin , DG BOI Sindh, and Ms. Sadia Director BOI.Mr. Tejinder Singh Khurana, Honorary Chairman, Texmas, DTC, Mr. Ismail Abdul Karim, Hon. Joint Secretary, DTC, Mr. Ashok R Sawlani, Former Chairman and Member Managing Committee and other officials of the DTC welcomed the Pakistani Minister and other delegation members.

Following is the gist of the meeting:

  1. The Hon. Chairman gave a brief profile of the DTC.  Dubai Textile City has state-of-the-art warehousing-cum-front business office facility for textile manufacturers, exporters, merchandizers and buying houses. DTC also offers exhibition, matchmaking and networking facilities.  DTC sits at the center of a 1.4 billion booming consumer market extending from the CIS to Africa and the Indian subcontinent. DTC is managed and owned  by the Textile Merchants Group (Texmas), the apex body of the UAE textile merchants, has strength of 300 members, thus accounting for 80 per cent of UAE's textile trade.


  1. Minister appreciated the facilities offered in the DTC and emphasized on the need to integrate the textile value chain with Pakistan. The Minister highlighted Pakistan competitive advantage in Textiles and clothing. Synergies between DTC and Pakistani manufacturers will create win-win situation for all. He further gave a business proposition to the DTC management that the DTC can offer showroom and matchmaking facilities in the low-end textiles especially fabric, bed-linen, towels, home textiles and denim in the first phase and then graduating to high-end value-added designer textile and clothing. Minister for Textiles invited DTC to visit Pakistan Textiles City at Karachi.

  2. Chairman BoI Sindh stressed upon the DTC that Pakistan has special market access advantages in the EU due to GSP plus trade preference for Pakistani textile sector. DTC Rules of Origin can also be utilized to qualify the Rules of Origin criteria to get preferential tariffs and market access in the entire Gulf Cooperation Council Countries (GCC), Africa and other trading blocks.


  1. DTC offered to sponsor a trade delegation or to hold an exhibition for Pakistani textile manufacturers with business networking and matchmaking services. They also offered business front-office and warehousing facilities for the Pakistani textile merchants. The Chairman DTC offered free use of their exhibition hall to the Pakistan’s Minister to introduce Pakistan Textile products to Dubai and DTC Buyers.


  1. The meeting ended with a visit to the DTC exhibition hall, site offices and warehousing facility.
