Better Cotton Initiative
The Ministry of Textile Industry andWWF-Pakistan have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the MoUhas been signed by Mr. Liaqat Ali Khan, Joint Director PCSI representingMinistry of Textile and Mr. ArifHamid Mahkdum, Director, Sustainable Agriculture Programme (SAP), WWF-Pakistanon behalf of PCSI and SAP, WWF-Pakistan respectively today on 12thJuly, 2012 in the Committee room, MINTEX, Islamabad. The ceremony was graced by the Secretary, Ministryof Textile Industry and other officers of Ministry were also present at theoccasion.
TheMemorandum of Understanding (MoU), sets out the terms and conditions underwhich SAP, WWF-Pakistan and Pakistan Cotton Standards institute under the project“sustainable cotton production in Pakistan’s cotton Ginning SMEs” shall jointlyundertake activities to promote proper picking procedures and better ginningpractices among the cotton growers and ginners of the project area through onfarm / factory demonstrations for the production of clean cotton. PCSI in collaboration with SAP, WWF-Pakistanshall promote the implementation of cotton standardization system, classing andgrading, and quality control measures for the enhancement of Pak Cotton qualityin the country, the pre-requisite requirement of the national, regional prefaceand international marketing. This has direct impact and immediate bearingson the entire chain of value addition till the final made-ups thus providingsubstantial financial boost to the National Economy.
