A workshop on quality production of wool fiber was  held in KPK at livestock station JABA, Manshera in collaboration with Ministry of Textile industry  arranged by EDPIU (Mintex) project. The Dr.Shahid Rafiue (Ph.D Animal sciences PARC) and Dr. Fatehullah   national coordinator NARC were the  guests of honour at the  workshop.   Dr.Muqrab Ali khan (Director livestock/ consultant) was the lead  resource person on the occasion.

The quality of wool produced by KPK  is semi fine but there is no classification and grading practices, lack of cleaning and mixing of wool with dirt further deteriorates  quality of raw materials. Likewise obsolete Shearing techniques are used whereas now shearing is a specialized skill. Mechanical wool shearing not only increases the staple length of the wool but also fetches better rate for the wool produced. This workshop was a first step in the awareness campaign about quality production.

It was a full day activity. The training was imparted through trained person from JABA sheep farm house which is serving as demonstration, training and technology transfer center. The resource persons imparted gave practical knowledge about mechanical shearing, grading, sorting and quality production of wool and gave briefing to shepherds about how to improve wool production by proper sheep management and breeding  techniques.

Hasho foundation (an NGO) joined the event  with their female workers team. These women produce value added product from wool fiber. They displayed their products at JABA shawl center for exhibition and showcased their contribution for value addition. The workshop was well appreciated by the stakes holders of wool supply chain and they desired for more such event on consistent bases for long term benefit of natural wool fiber.
