The federal minister for textile industry Abbas Khan Afridi  urged that the next year should be declared as textile year in order to enhance textile sector growth in the country. Chairman Council of All Pakistan Textile Association called on federal minister for textile industry Mr Abbas Khan Afridi. He apprised the federal minister of the problems faced by the textile sector.

             The federal minister assured the representatives that the present government will go to any extent to facilitate the textile sector. In past the textile sector was supported twice and the result was increase in textile exports. The federal minister said that that the present government was aware of the problems faced by the textile industry and in order to protect GSP plus status it will go for any out of the box solution. The minister reiterated the fact that power shortage is playing havoc with the industry and in the coming years the condition will worsen if not tackled on emergency basis.

             The present business friendly government encourages entrepreneurship and facilitates investment. Suggestions regarding self-energy production, EU conventions regarding GSP plus, sales tax and tariff laws related to textile were also discussed in the meeting. The federal minister is of the view that only joint contributions towards economic growth by the government and the business community can only bring the country out of the present crisis.
